Senior Paraplanner

John Kamau

I was born and raised in Kenya, where I developed a deep appreciation for hard work, education, and community. In 2005, I graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Mathematics and Physics. My early career took me through diverse industries, including banking and telecommunications. As a Business Banker, I worked closely with clients to understand their financial needs and help grow their businesses. Later, as a Mobile Phone Operations Manager, I honed my leadership and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment. These experiences laid a strong foundation for my future in finance.

In 2009, life took an exciting turn when I moved to Australia with my wife and our 11-month-old son to pursue further education. Adjusting to a new country while raising a young family wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience and focus. I completed a Master’s degree in Actuarial and Financial Science at Curtin University in 2011—an achievement that marked the beginning of a new chapter.

Driven by a passion to help people make smart, confident financial decisions, I went on to complete a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning through Mentor Education in 2017. That’s when my journey into the financial planning profession truly began. I started as an Associate Adviser, learning the ins and outs of personalised financial advice. Today, I bring that knowledge and experience to my role as a Senior Paraplanner, where I work closely with advisers to deliver tailored, strategic solutions that help individuals and families achieve their financial goals.

Outside of the office, I’m a proud and active father to three energetic and wonderful sons—the youngest is five years old and keeps me constantly on my toes! Family time is everything to me. We love heading out on new adventures, whether it’s exploring the great outdoors here in Australia or reconnecting with our heritage through trips back to Kenya. Our most recent visit included unforgettable game drives in the Maasai Mara and relaxing time on the beautiful beaches of Mombasa.

Whether it’s cheering on my boys at their soccer games, enjoying weekend catch-ups with family or friends, or planning our next family getaway, I value the balance between professional dedication and creating lasting memories with those I love. Life is full—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
